Asbestos Removal Sydney
Most asbestos in Sydney homes is the bonded kind: fibro walls, eaves, cement roofs and fences. More than 10 square metres of it, or any amount of friable asbestos, must be removed by someone SafeWork NSW has licensed. If you are not sure it is asbestos, only a sample tested at a NATA-accredited laboratory settles it.

Four facts that change the job
- Over 10 m² needs a licence SafeWork NSW licenses the removal of any amount of friable asbestos and of more than 10 square metres of bonded asbestos. Below that area NSW says a homeowner may remove bonded asbestos, though it strongly recommends a licensed removalist.
- Test before you touch You cannot identify asbestos by looking at it: only a sample tested at a NATA-accredited laboratory confirms it. The NSW Government says a building from before 1990 probably has some.
- Your council adds its own step The City of Sydney wants neighbours told in writing, Canterbury-Bankstown's Clean-Up will not take asbestos, Northern Beaches wants a consent check and Blue Mountains takes it only by appointment.
- Neighbours hear first For licensed work the removalist must notify SafeWork NSW at least five calendar days ahead and give notice to the neighbours.

Asbestos Removal across Sydney
Sydney is many councils, and each states its own extras.
